Title: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-06-12, 12:24:05
I'm trying out 'Star Ocean: Till the End of Time' on PS2.

It's pretty good. I actually like it better than Final Fantasy X. I've been busy getting this website up so I haven't been able to continue playing it of late.

I just bought morrowind - game of the year edition.

Looks pretty involved. I'm not gonna buy oblivion till it drops considerably in price.

I'd like to see them redo Silent Hill on the PS3 to make it look more like the movie.

That would be badass.

I finally caved in and bought a new computer, which I built from parts purchased at newegg.

A little under $600 USD and I got a fairly good gaming machine. It has consistantly played every game I have installed into it. I have been able to play FEAR, Doom3, and practically every demo on www.fileplanet.com (http://www.fileplanet.com).

Athlon64 Rulez!

Yeah, A64 ftw!
I rebuilt mine a while ago with an A64 3500+ for the CPU.
Great for overclocking  ;D

I'm currently at the point where I have crash landed my escape pod on a primitive world after the Federation ship was destroyed.

Well I started playing Ocean Star again. Now I'm stuck at the Mine shaft of the second world. Something about reaching Aquaria through the mines. I'm stuck. I got to the point of fighting some big create, flipping a switch, and riding some beasts in an endless circle. Can't seem to find a point to progress. Hmm.  :-\
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-01, 12:32:00
yup. that part is a bitch.  Im guessing you are in the kirlsa caverns.

now its my turn to help you! ;D

each hauler beast has different stats and things it does.  if you are just wanting to get to the end, just simply use the "steady" beast.

First, choose the steady hauler type.  From the start of the mines, set your speed to about 20 km/h as you pass by the first stop.  Turn left and then right through the gate.  You can stop here to recuperate your haulers stress level or continue onward.  Turn left and left again, being careful around the two sets of falling rocks.  You can avoid the first sets of rocks by slowing down to 5 km/h, but you may consider storming through the second set.  Bump your speed to about 25 km/h while bulldozing through the next four gates.  As soon as the "Switch?" sign appears, push left and slow your hauler down to below 25 km/h, as you make your final left turn into the exit.

Don't worry if your hauler gets too stressed or doesn't make the final turn.  Just get the Hauler back on track, continueing around center circle until you can do it all over again.  Do NOT left the Hauler return to the station at the entrance, or else you will have to start over from scratch.  If you can get  back on track, stop the Hauler at one of the pit stops to relieve its stress level, then continue on.  Since youve already destroyed the blockages, your haulers stress level should remain within normal limits until you reach the end.

Hope this helps.  If you have any other questions let me know.. im a god at this game :-D

Thanks. Now I'm at the Kilsa Training Facility. I got the key from the Prison kitchen from that one lady, but can't seem to figure out where to progress. I'm figuring that there is a switch I need to find for the door on the second level, because the key I was given doesn't seem to work on it.

My endless circling of the facility has given me a treasure troph of experience and money, which I used to travel all the way back to the caste city beyond kilsa (forget it's name.) where I bought the expensive holy sword. Hehe. Got the best armor and weapon of that area for the main character so far. Need to save up for stuff for my other character.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-02, 21:32:39
good job getting the holy sword that early in the game. to progress, return down to the first floor of the kirsla training facility and take a left at the entrance. at the end of the hall there is a door that was locked. use the key on that and you will get on an elevator.  use that to get to the top floor.

note: be ready for a boss battle. ;)
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-02, 22:01:48
Thanks again. I actually figured it out after I posted. lol

I didn't fully explore the first floor. That is so unlike me to do that. lol again.

Yeah. I noticed I can get a ton of cash from those noblemen battles. I just stand there and let them drop their money. It's hard to get two to do that at the same time, but it's possible. I noticed that the lower their heath, the more often they drop money and the hyper noble will drop a ton of cash in very little time. I had a battle end with over 10,000 fol. I also sold a ton of my equipement to get that sword. I wanted it bad. hehe
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-02, 22:45:17
LOL.

I have another one with two noblemen. This time I'm going to just stand here for about 30 minutes and see how much cash I get at the end of the battle. lmao.

HAHAHA! wow you found out one of my strategies! ;)

MY MONEY! MY MONEY! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

lmao!!! ;D
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-02, 23:19:11
thought i would give you some of my stats in my game. i just put it in.

so far i got 125 out of the 300 battle trophys.

all 8 of my guys are at levels 80 and 81 and i have a game time total of 111 hrs and 10 minutes ;D

also i currently have $1902581.  I did have more but i upgraded my weapons, which took a ton of money to do so
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-03, 14:02:05
Wow. I have a long ways to go before I see those stats.  :o

I can't beleive I completely overlooked an area of the first floor of that kilsa facility. Now I have to build up Nel because she's soooo behind the rest of us. She's only at level 16 while Cliff and Leingod are at 25.

She fell quickly before the boss guy, Shelby. I'm kindof getting her back on track now, but it's going to take some time. At least I have another opportunity for more cash and thus more upgrades at the shops of that castle city, whatchamacallit.

I want to get those advanced gauntlets for Cliff. I'm half way there. w00t!

Battles go much faster with the holy sword. hehe
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-03, 16:02:52
Castle Airyglyph* ;D

if your going for exp, try to get your bonus battle guage up and get the triple exp one going.  Next, use nel and just let her sit back and let cliff and fayt do all the killing.  It is pretty good with nel since she knows healing right off the bat so just sit back in a corner with her and heal the guys when they get low on health.  The one think you need to focus on is not allowing her to get hit because if she does, and its a critical hit by the enemy, your battle guage will get broken and youll have to build it up again.  Try not risking it and have her sit in that corner away from the action and just heal the guys.

A good exp training area for your guy's level currently:  The Granah Hills connecting kirlsa to the kirlsa training facility.  Fight the black brigade soldiers that run around.  They travel in packs and give out tons of exp after the battle is done... with the triple exp battle guage on,  the exp is a great amount.

Do you know how to do cancel bonuses yet in battles?  If not, let me know and ill help you out learning them.  They are a must later on in the game to get some of the battle trophys, expecially the defeat enemy in 1 minute, because there are some bosses that are HP whores and takes a lot of damage to kill them.

This game has some impressive maps. Maybe I could recreate them in embrace...

Well I found a new playground for experience and fol. It's near the forest with bandits outside Aquios (I think) the commerce city where you can join the inventor's guild. I signed up, but all I have created so far is some kind of cider.

Stuck again. Now I'm at Kaddan. There's this creature there with some kind of force field that I can't penetrate.

Hmm. I had to retreat.

No need. I figured it out.

Now I'm at the Barr Caverns looking for the Dragon Road. I have some kind of flute, but am trying to figure out where to use it...
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-07, 05:54:30
Ill give you a clue... go to the highest area up in the barr mountains into a dragon graveyard looking area. not the one in the cave, but the area highest up on the mountain.  look for a flying dragon's shadow in that area and run into it.  That should lead you to some answers. if your still stuck, let me know
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-07, 15:48:57
I did go up there before posting, but I guess I need to go BACK you're saying? Like usually, I missed something.  :-\
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-07, 16:00:03
did you see what the little dragon did at the cave place?  take note of the different face appearances and what it says he looks like.. after that, look around for a dragon looking door in the barr caves.

if you didn't notice, you can play the flute by pressing square.  try experimenting playing different tunes.  there are 4 different tunes.

pressing square lightly
pressing square lightly and hold it down for a few seconds
pressing square hard
pressing square hard and hold it down for a few seconds.

press circle to play the flute.

pressing circle lightly
pressing circle lightly and hold it down for a few seconds
pressing circle hard
pressing circle hard and hold it down for a few seconds.

i thought it was square but i checked and its circle. so void out anything i said about sqaure and replace it with circle  ;D

Alright. I'm really far in the game now. I'm right up to the Sphere.

I'm not stuck, just weak and need to train (currently at level 60). I noticed the arena is a great place for that. I read somewhere that your party's AI is adaptive and will follow patterns based on what you have used when controlling them. I noticed that Cliff uses my typical long range strong attack then strikes again when opponent is in the air, then two more times with normal attacks. It's the same pattern I used a lot in combat. Very handy too. Hehe

I'm currently training Sophia's AI to be mean with the Symboligy. I never knew she could be so powerful until I introduced her to the arena. I was laughing as she rises 6 levels per combat and gaining tons of symboligy powers and skills. She can even use her symboligy spells as attacks. How interesting. I have much to do with this game yet...
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-10, 02:02:40
yes sir you are correct... sophia is one of my main party members... it will either be her or adray in my party.

EXP building hint:  Fight the "insect lords" in the battle arena with triple exp bonus battle on.  It will give you a ton of exp.  They aren't really hard. When you fight them, use sophia or adray to constantly use deep freeze on the group for massive damage total (they are week against ice)  Other than that congrats on getting that far... did i not tell you the game gets really interesting later on?  ;D

PS: The enforcers rule! they are my favorite type of executioner.  My favorite scene in the entire game is where they blow the hell out of the earth.. that and when they blow up the aquielie

Can you believe that some people have got their characters up to the 200th levels? Sheesh.  :o
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-10, 11:40:10
yes. the highest level you can get in SO3 is 255. my guys are currently 94,95,96s
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-13, 01:19:09
I decided to start over because I really don't like how my characters were developed. I made too many mistakes. I didn't know that Attack and Defend points were merely to the AI and don't actually enhance damage and defense levels - merely damage and defense AI tactics. So I neglected to spend vital points in health and mana early in development, which made them rather weak late in the game. Not to mention that Fayt's AI is all screwed up - he's casting symbols that he really doesn't have the mana for, yet he casts them like nothing is wrong. causing his mana to deplete faster especially when fighting enemies that damage MANA. Very bad.

Well it works out fine this way. I found some new areas that I overlooked the first time I played so I'm finding new items to experiment with. :D
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-13, 09:26:20
wow you had the same problem as i did with cliff.  i wasn't too far off in the game though.. but i also decided to restart the game. that was when i first got it.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-13, 14:20:30
Good god! It's totally different now. I didn't even get Adray on my side the first time I played. I never even encountered the guy. I wonder if it's because he doesn't appear on Earth difficulty level. It's all good. I find the Battle Trophies... interesting.

I didn't get battle trophies the first time I played.

Have you ever tried to fight Crosell with the Gutsy Bunny? Pain in the ass.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Mort on 2006-08-27, 14:37:26
LMAO!!!!

Crosell was the hardest boss ive ever faced for some reason. i lvled out the ass to beat him. always got past his first form and then died pm his second form.

I can beat him no problem now though. i dunno what was wrong
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-27, 19:27:41
I noticed that Crosell becomes more powerful when you fight him with tripple EXP in your battle bonuses. When I tried to fight him with battle bonuses (all 4 of them) and combined it with Gutsy Bunny, I had my rear handed to me at level 55~. I can only imagine the kind of EXP I would have gained from him...  :o
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2006-08-28, 15:22:23
Ok weird. I found the 1/1 Scale Bunny, but what is with the -50% movement reduction to the entire party? Is that a typo on the developer's end? The item is worth quite a bit - 82,000 fol. Unless there's something special waiting for me for keeping this bunny, I may just sell it. The speed reduction is killing me.

[edit]

I found another one. Makes me wonder what would happen if I decided to have kept that last one...

[edit again]

Bah! I'll just sell em' combining them together just makes things worse. I guess it's a huge and heavy crystal bunny created for the sole purpose of selling.

The Bloodmoon part of the game is very well done IMO , almost set it apart from the rest of the game (probably cause it was the secound expansion , developed after a long time).

Dang it. FF10 can be quite involved.

I'm trying to get through the Gagazet Mountains, but fighting Seymour is pain in the ass with his annihilation attack. The guy literally kills my entire coterie within one massive swoop. I can't find a defense against it. I guess the best thing to do is raise all the overdrives on my aeons prior to the boss fight and cross my fingers.

I like FF10, but so far I am NOT liking FF10-2. I don't like the sudden change from turn based system to realtime without any real changes to gameplay. All they did was add uberly faster enemies that wont wait for their turn anymore. They will just keep attacking you while you're trying to make a selection. I don't think that realtime combat and selection menues mix all to well. If they are going to make FF real time it should be done Star Ocean style where you can move around and attack with single button presses rather than having to make complex selections while your enemies pummle you to death. I also don't like the fact that I'm stuck with playing only females. There is no party options other than the dresspheres, which don't seem to fascinate me so much.

How FF10-2 ended up on the 'Greatest Hits' list is a mystery to me.

BTW: The constantly played techno 70's music makes me want to mute my TV.

You're saying FF10-2 was made for hormone driven teenagers who jerk off to anime chicks?
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?

Well, they used real people as a base for models on this one,ye can tell by the (stylized still) faces of the characters...
But back to yer question,ayes!
Why else use a game as an  excuse to sport popular japanese popstar dress styles?

Well I just bought a psp and have bought 3 games for it. I have Valkerie Profile, Popolocrois, and Blade Dancer. I tried out Blade Dancer and it looks ok. Valkerie Profile is really good so far and I have yet to try Popolocrois just yet.

I think I'll play Valkerie Profile for a while longer...

On and another note:

I have noticed that a new Silent Hill plans to launch for the PSP. Could be worth looking into.

Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Old Fecker on 2007-02-03, 13:59:04
I fucking hated bloodlines. It was a complete and utter buggy mess. Not to mention it uses the HL2 Source engine weird. What i mean is the way Source is used in HL2 is really good, gives good performance, doesnt put a strain on your pc etc. but bloodlines makes the Source engine perform horribly....god knows how Troika managed that.

Id advise you to download the latest unofficial patch which fixes a lot of the bugs in the game. The storyline is a good one but the engine lets it down.

Yeah. I just wanted to see it for myself. This game was quite a waste of $30, but at least now I know for sure what all the fuss is about.

BTW: Does anyone know where to download the program that can extract vpk files is?

At the very least I can draw some resources from this game.

ok... I finally got the bugger workin' better. The unofficial patches don't really fix the engine - just some elements of the quest scripts and discipline content.

I've been getting pretty far without the patches. I came across quite a few funny parts. I took a screen shot of one of them. Option 2 made me LOL - I guess you have to be into Hentai to understand.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Old Fecker on 2007-02-07, 01:24:45
Yeah the patches just fix stuff like dialogue and missing/inacurate XP etc. The engine is screwed permanently!

Just out of interest, when the intro sequence is playing where your sire gets killed, does the big guy with the sword actually 'strike' your sire or does he just stand there with the sword held high while she burns to ash? Ive never actually seen him 'hit' anything yet!
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2007-02-07, 19:30:50
The camera turns away on my end. The scene doesn't show the decap, just the burn away. I see him raise the sword up, but never actually see him strike down because the camera doesn't show it - the camera turns away to the crowd's reaction instead.

I finally reached the 6th chapter on Valkyrie Profile.

BTW: I had to start over on Bloodlines. I'm trying to figure out what kind of clan/disciplines work with my style of play. It's not easy sense Troika didn't actually follow the book so my favorite clan (Gangrel) doesn't offer the stuff that makes me a fan of it so now I'm checking other avenues. Brujah seems ok. I like Celerity.

I also like guns so hmm...
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2007-02-12, 20:57:20
And there ya go... I beat the game as a Brujah Gunman using only the official patch (1.2?). That took me a couple of tries sense my first Brujah didn't do so well. The Celerity effect reminds me of FEAR/Doom3.

The god damn crashes in Bloodlines are pissing me off. Some rants about Bloodlines:

-Even with the 1.2 patch the game is a freakin' hog - showing almost 800megs of ram use after 1 hour of play.
-Takes forever for the game to close to desktop.
-Some windows keyboard functions are ENABLED during game play, which causes the game to CRASH if you accidently press the 'startmenu' key conveniently placed next to the default crouch key (ctrl). That always pisses me off. On my keyboard the keys are placed close together and pressing the control key is almost the same as pressing the 'startmenu'. Other games DISABLE the 'startmenu' key on peoples keyboards because GOOD developers know that key can cause game crashes. Apparently Troika doesn't.
-Lag jolts for no apparent reason (Nothing is running major tasks in my backg - like that should make a difference on 1gig of RAM.), but the game continues to run choppy in some areas - I have had better framerate from FEAR with more stuff running in the backg.
-Random crashes, period. Man they piss me off.
-Voice skippy - oddly enough the game does this off and on. Sometimes it runs fine and sometimes it wants to give me hell.

Bloodlines seems to have 'moods' from what I have noticed. It will run fine one day then be a pain in my ass another. I'm think I'm going to play some other 'more stable' games for awhile. I'm getting flusterated. Bloodlines would have been a great game if it had used the more complete HL2 engine, which my pc has absolutely no trouble with.

UNRELATED RANT:  I don't like my keyboard. The buttons are way too close together and I have chubby fingers. This keyboard also has a small backspace button that is way to close to the insert button - another thing that pisses me off, but is NOT related to Bloodlines.

The only thing i liked about the bloodlines btch was messing with theyre cool models, thats pretty much it.

You using at least 1400mb of windows file swap? (virtual ram) i use arround 3000mb windows swap and the game runs perfect arround 60-65 fps, no crashes on my end.

I use 6000MB virtual ram and the game still has fits whenever it feels like it. Its dogshit to be honest. The actual storyline, settings etc. are good but the engine is a mess which in turn makes the game shit.  ;D

Adding Virtual memory did nothing for me that I could notice. Maybe I should make a Bloodlines mod for Redemption. Like, convert the maps over with textures and stuff.

FEAR is really awesome. I'm near the last level... I think. I'm in The Vault. The game is hard to put away. The graphics, slowmo effect, and realistic AI make the game quite addictive. Your enemies will always do something different everytime you play. They will try to flank you, shadow you, and flush you out of hiding places - very intelligent AI, which is what makes this game truly scary.

I still think Doom3 has better graphics (artistically), but nothing beats being able to blow the limbs off you enemies and watch them twitch around like in FEAR. I blew an ATC guard in half with my shotgun. Man. That was awesome! The gore is so intense.

Some of the shit I've done in FEAR makes me wish I had my fraps on. I tend to aim low with the shotgun. If you aim towards your targets legs at close range, the chances of blowing them in half increase drastically. I once blew the head off of one of those guards with a pistol. I think you have to hit them directly in the neck.

The shotgun is the key. It has the highest chance of gib killing. I've blown off heads, arms, and legs with the shotgun. I even blew several people IN HALF. You gotta get close - that means be fast and use reflexes a lot. This gore aspect is probably one of FEAR's highest points I think sense there isn't many FPS games that allow blowing off limbs like FEAR does.... at least for the PC.

Ok I've played Far Cry and I got 3 words to say about it.

Peice of crap!

This game is so difficult even on EASY that I have to play it in GOD MODE. I have played A LOT of FPS games and this one pisses me off the most. I know FEAR has far more unforgiving damage, but at least you have an awesome slowdown ability that makes the game very survivable. In Far Cry, on the easy setting, you can die in 2-3 hits. Given that you have to play in thick jungle settings with LOTS OF FUCKING ENEMIES, it is completely rediculous overated crap.

The game even says 'EASY: Enjoy your island vacation.'

WHAT FUCKING VACATION?!

Wow talk about people who dont like losing

Did you play Halo on extreme difficulty? you know some people actually like a challange when playing FPS or tactical games, makes it abit more interesting than just shooting everything without a actual fight.
while a game should not be too difficult on easy setting for non hardcore players I think saying the game is a "piece of crap" because of difficulty is abit of a overkill.
I dont know much about Far Cry but I know that if you tried to play games lilke Rainbow Six like you play Quake II you will lose each time(you die within 1 hit).

As for what game I play nowdays , I play the DOS game Budokan: The Martial Spirit.  :P If I had a stronger comupter for new games Id be playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , from what I read it looks promising and original.

You need to try Far Cry to really understand what I'm saying. The difficulty is INHUMAN. I have played FEAR on MAX DIFFICULTY and had more injoyment than player Far Cry on EASY.

Far Cry is not challenging... it's simply UNFAIR.

BTW: People have said that STALKER is more forgiving.

Let me illaberate on that crap that goes on with Far Cry:

-You're one man going up against on island full of highly trained mercenaries and STRANGE CREATURES.
-Unlike Ghost Recon, you don't have additional men to aid you.
-Stealth isn't worth shit. I've had Mercs shoot at me with unreal accuracy while I was prone down in an enemy tent. (There realisticly should have been no way for them to know I was there.)
-Monsters hide in thick brush at the dead of night. They ambush and kill you with unreal spead and damage. They are not easy to kill and don't bother trying to sneak up on them - they'll sneak up on you first.
-Mercs with rocket launchers that spot you from a guard tower on a hill a freaking mile away.
-Monsters with rocket launchers that are like hell knights in Doom3. Are you getting the hint, yet?
-Having to fight armies of them with limited ammo and health - no avoidance POSSIBLE.
-Don't ever compare Far Cry to Ghost Recon.

Seriously. Play the game then tell me I don't like challenge.

I wasnt comparing it with Ghost Recon, I was comparing it with Rainbow Six, Thief: the Dark Project(that game is a classic) and other FPS that require the user to have to know exactly what hes doing .
did you try any game guides? from what you are describing its a unplayable game but I think there is something your missing.

Moving prone sucks, you need to actually crawl to get at someone undetected IMO.

Btw PC version of Farcry got 9.2 on gamespot which is respectable

Farcry is awesome, its like a FPS version of Jagged Aliiance . basicly all you need to do is to keep eyes and ears open and to crawl alot through the bushes so enemys dont see or hear you coming and throw rocks to distract them, challanging but not impossiable. I like that funny cheap action movie style they gave to it.

The trick is guards can hear and see you if you just use the normal sneak so use crawl. Also helps to take sniper shots with your M-4 rather than trying to get really close .

What I usally do is crawl to a place where I can get a good shot, kill one from a good distance, relocate as fast as I can, throw granade at guards who came to see whats happening and start killing them using accurate burst fire from my M-4. (was only playing in medium difficulty so far so maybe that tactic doesnt work for more difficult situations. usally the guards are stupid enough to make noise or appear on my radar after initial firefight so its really not that hard(unless you try and play it like Quake or Doom). its more forgiving than Thief: the dark project, thats for sure.

I tried playing Far Cry on a higher difficulty and have come to realize there is no big difference. So I just play it on realistic with adaptive ai. I've been able to figure out more about how the ai works so I have pretty much got a tactic down that makes the game much easier, but quite tedious.

Seem like farcry AI is adapting slowly , on Realistic with Adaptive AI it took them 2 whole levels to adapt from the "Doh , that guy in the shirt is shooting at us" to "lets try to sneak on him and take cover". of course every now and then they are still way too obvious , still they learned to mount vihicles when they can and even try to flank me which is impressive.

so tell me, how does that work?  do I have to attack in one pattren sujccessively for the AI to formulate a counter pattren?

Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2007-04-04, 13:14:21
Well first off, my tactic takes at least an hour and half to 2 hours per level. It consists of this:

-Servey the area so to know your terrain.
-Use the binoculars to scan for enemies.
-Keep a sniper rifle handy to take out ONLY the spotters.
-Spotters are people that are in towers and other high places carrying weapons like sniper rifles and rocket launchers.
-Otherwise I sneak up on the rest with an assault rifle and under the cover a thick foliage.
-Go very very slowly and use thick foliage for cover, keep prone or crouched at all times and listen for disturbances.
-Throw rocks to open areas where you want enemies to investigate - this puts them in sight to pick them off.
-On realistic, DON'T LET THEM SEE YOU THROW ROCKS. If they do, stay in thick cover and let them come in weapons range. Sometimes they'll just start shooting at a position constantly. When this happens, I start flanking in from another direction, while they shoot at nothing.

This tactic has gotten me far, but it's still difficult.

Title: Re: What games ya playin'?

what works for me on all difficulty levels so far is:

1)use the binoculars to scan for enemys
2)use Sniper rifle if you notice Rockets,Snipers or Morter.
3)sneak to about 2 kilometer from enemy location and start taking down the ones you can using M-4(assault rifle) on Snipe mod (hold right click) , use binoculars locator signal to spot the enemy and shoot him if you dont have a clear shot. also shoot exploasives if you see any to creat confusion and draw the enemy out.
4)Move in closer on the rest(sneak/prone) using cover once your sure you cant take down anymore from distance, throw grandes if the enemy is dug inside buildings or behind heavy cover. usally forces them to move while creating a exploasion that confuses and scramble thier senses.
5)if your fighting inside buldings and close range switch to P9.
6)if things get messy : A) Throw grandes. B) run back, lie down, take a few breaths, use binocluars to see if anyone follows, execute step no.3 and advance to step no.4 if needed.

The problem comes when the enemy have a rocket shooting boat, Morter or a chopper, (while its not too hard tot take down a chopper gunner , I never managed to destroy one)

I'm pretty far in the game now. I'm on a level where I have to go down the heavily guarded river. It's a very tedious process as there are guys up on hills with rocket launchers that start shooting crazy after they spot you. It is not adviced to just ride down the river right from the start - you'll be shot and killed before the first checkpoint.

I usually just hide in bushes at this point and draw them out to me with gun fire and shoot em when they charge at my position. Rocks don't work much at this point. "Whatever that was, I don't care."
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: ORI on 2007-04-09, 16:19:37
The Adaptive AI catch on to these tricks if you try them to much, eventually they will just wait for you and shoot you when you go.

ATM im at the end of the Regulator stage, could be not as far as you cause I dont remember going down a long heavily guarded river.
I exchanged my M-4 for that new scoped Assualt rifle, that and the UV goggles works wonder in killing enemys from range. if they dont respond to rocks, just through a flashbang or a grande  and they will come screaming, if your outdoors you might want to try blind shooting through the bushes using your binoculars to mark targets. RPG is also nice cause I find I have too many rockets anyway by now (I saved too much on em)
Also I keep my Pancor Jackhammer shotgun for when I ambush them in a doorway or wait for them to get really close. Its at the point where the AI adapted so extensively, you have to actually get creative with your tactic so I usally take the less obvious path or climb a high slope and do some shooting from there where they cant easily hit me or run at me. really hope it will turn daylight again at one point because I usally dont see shit from distance without UV goggles
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: ORI on 2007-04-19, 09:00:07
Im now at the river stage where you have to go down the river, basicly trick is to get one of the speedboats instead of the lame inflating boats, keep driving it through the river as fast as you can while blasting everything that bothers you with the boat's rocket launcher, when you hit a blockade in the river, just stop a good distance away if you can , lie prone on the shore and take enemies down using Assault rifle sniper alt fire.  whenever you spot a house , tents etc from afar just send there a rocket without aiming at anyone in particular, Morter/Law cant take you down when your moving fast
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2007-04-19, 13:15:23
I'm doing it the slow way, by creaping up the sides of the river where possible. At this point, I'm tempted to replay at the whimpy difficulty mode because I'm loosing patience and always finding myself lacking in health right as I reach a checkpoint. This is way too tedious.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: ORI on 2007-04-19, 14:04:53
Heh you think thats annoying, wait till you get to the level where you and Val take a Hummer and She gets to drive while you have to try to aim the guns with her bad bad driving,.

Dont be a wimp, even if you get to the checkpoint low on health you can find plenty of medkits in the camps along the banks, besides after the initial river trip(right to the part where the Hummer is camped on some water walk) you can do it pretty much by foot alone and use the boat only for transport to the next sections.

I didnt even have my Scoped Assualt Rifle for that one cause I had to use the Shotgun and P9 to get through the Catacombs so after that I could only find a M-4 and thats what I had to do with for long range attacks (still had my sniper rifle for special occasions though).

I noticed quite a few newer games have stopped using the disk. Now they require online activation like XP does. The cool thing about that is you can make as many copies of a game as you want, but only one will be allowed to work.

When I bought HL2, my disk mainly only contained STEAM. With STEAM, I had to register my account and activate my copy using the serial number from the box. After that, the game runs without a disk and I can also download the game from STEAM's server at any time, giving me boundless backup access anywhere I go. I hope this new system phases out the cd-keys sense it appears they don't work that well anyways. Online activation I think is the ideal way to go to really fight piracy. When I start making my own commercial games, I would want to use online activation too.

Whoa... I found a nice little program that really improves the Morrowind game. I zipped it up and attached it below:

It allows me to set my screen res to widescreen support as well as allows me to see longer distances. Great program!

Long distance seeing is kind of a cheat IMO

Also you can move faster over terrain if you fly, so just make a long effect flying spell and your all set. Also you can always use that Giant flee (I forgot what its called) to teleport you through main Cities/Areas or Ships when your on Coasts. Might also help to improve your armor skill that allows you to move faster wearing armor(especially Heavy Armor which makes ya ultra slow) I always played Dark Elf but at some point in the game I become something godlike with all the skills.

Personally I think the graphics look better with longer seeing distances. More realistic too (With the exception of fog of course.)
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: ORI on 2007-05-07, 03:26:30
Really depends how much distance, usally your not very likely to spot a character in more than a few kilometers unless you are on highgrounds
Think games like Farcry(PC version) feature realistic sight distance for example.
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2007-05-07, 08:20:42
It's not even that. Even with the program I have, the distance added doesn't come anywhere near FarCry so I don't see it as a cheat. Try the optimizer for yourself and see if you still think it's a cheat. The prog wont allow the distance to go paste your frame rate limit. So if you want the game to run at 30 FPS then the prog keeps adjusting the fog distance to keep your frame rate up.

Hence why it's called an 'Optimizer'.

Mean Farcry without using Binoculars/Sniperscope or other vision enahancement equipment.
Dont think Ill install morrowind without finding my saved games as I would only want to complete the expansion if I play it again.

Anyone of you have Resident Evil Outbreak 1 or 2?

I was just wondering who might want to play multiplayer of some other game that isn't an MMO...

I just made a little recording of my escape from Nova Prospect. The image so damn graining at standard quality that I had to bump quality up to max on the Windows Movie Maker so you can at least see some details - got to be the lighting or something because I've seen Windows Movie Maker do better. Well here's my recording...

It's 70megs at almost 5 minutes long.

Yeah It was one of the more fun parts of HL2, the other one I liked was driving a buggy in the desolate countryside and stopping here and there at some shithole or outpost.

One of the games that are truely inspiring even if it was largely inspired by movies like  28 days later and War of the Worlds

I bought a whole bunch of games for my ps2 and gamecube. I bought:

PS2 - Final Fantasy XII (Liking it!)
PS2 - Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
PS2 - Cold Fear (Careful on the deck)
PS2 - God of War (Titties!!)

Gamecube - Tales of Symphonia (Haven't tried it yet, but looks like a rare RPG for the GC. I'll play this after I'm done with FF12.)

Man I've spent almost 100 hours accumulated on Final Fantasy XII. I've killed over 30 marks, I'm at level 65 on three of my guys and level 60 for the other three. I keep having low cash because I buy the best stuff and the most expensive bazaar relics so I'm pretty badass. I just got done going through Gulavenun or whatever its called. Now I have to head to a Port town where pirats reside to tell someone about my experience in Gulovunonnanaana whatever.

BTW: I also recently bought FEAR Extraction Point. That was laim. I didn't like it plotwise. That made no sense, explained nothing, nada, left me more confused than the first one. Not to mention the graphics didn't seem as good mapping wise. I kept wondering what is the point? The first one seemed alright, but this completely lost me. The combat seemed good, but there seemed to be some bugs in this game - I got stuck on terrain or some scenes wouldn't play right when I tried a replay. The expansion doesn't seem well thought out. I was like, 'Come on! I killed the damn guy and you can't explain to me why he's still alive?' It seems like instead of creating a whole new threat, they just did some recycling of the old.

Well games im playing at the moment are:

Oblivion: Shivering Isles (just completed it and got my achievements)
Overlord
Forza Motorsport 2
Flatout Ultimate Carnage

Just bought the xbox live arcade versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe and Track & Field but ive not played them yet. As of the end of this month I will be playing on an Xbox 360 Elite as they get released in Europe on the 24th August which coincides nicely with me getting hold of Bioshock! Giving away my 360 Premium to a mate of mine for nothing....god im generous!!

I was playing Bloodlines as a Female Tremere, but I have encountered that damn blocked door bug in the Kuei-jin Temple were you can't push the wooden bar blocking the double doors. I tend to wonder if this occurs only for female models... I never encountered this bug till I decided to play as Female.

I've now been playing FF12 going on 120 hours total now on my ps2. I don't think I've played a game on console that was this long before. I still have many marks to kill, more money to make and items to find. Lot's of stuff to do in FF12. I also tried out the new Loki demo at FilePlanet, but wasn't all that impressed. First off Loki reminds me of Diablo 2, but massively more laggy and it's graphics aren't even that impressive, but I hope this is only because it's a demo and most demos are alpha versions of the game.

Well I decided to throw in Far Cry again. The Crysis vids made me feel nostalgic. I also got ahold of the new Final Fantasy 1 and 2 for the PSP. I'm loving them. Nothing like remastered classics that I can put in my pockets. I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP too.

I played the demo of Bioshock and I'm very impressed. I would really like to install Vista just to see that game in DX10 form. With my new video card, processor, and ram, I'll be going off to fileplanet and download lots of new demos. Sorry sen, but choosing between computer upgrade and buying a new console system, I chose computer upgrade. I most likely spent tripple the cost than actually buying an xbox, but damn! This PC totally rocks, now.

Athlon 64 X2 + Geforce 8800 = lots of money spent on a system that will run buggy games that need tweaking to shit to run properley!

Xbox 360 Elite = Big HDD, HDMI, games that are tailored to run perfectly out of the box, brilliant online multiplayer + cross-game realtime voicechat on a 42" Plasma tv sat on my leather reclining sofa!!

That's a bunch of bull crap. The games work just fine. I haven't had to 'tweak' a single new game sense the upgrade. I even bought Bioshock, which works just fine BTW. I heard from Bloodywolf that even XBox games can glitch up. It's a computer all the same (with the same problems) - only less powerful.

I finally got Call of Duty 2 sense it price dropped. Been able to enjoy it with my graphics on max. Very nice. I also tried the demo of Call of Duty 4, considering the failure of Call of Duty 3, I was quite impressed with part 4's come back with exceptional graphics and more modern warfare.

The Crysis SP demo launched today. So far I've been able to use the same tactics that helped me survive Far Cry and much more. Stealth, Strength, Speed, and Heavy Armor make for one badass. I can play the demo on HIGH, but max runs at maybe 5-10 FPS. Oh well.

Hmm. I got paid, but Crysis is not on D2D yet. If D2D launches a mod-able version of Crysis then I'll buy it off of D2D. Otherwise, I'll have to wait till my new DVD player arrives before I can go off to buy the boxed version. My last DVD player has fried so I haven't been able to install anything from cd's - that includes VTMR and the AttA stuff I backed up. Hopefully the new DVD drive will arrive before I'm off to Thanksgiving gettogether on Wednesday.

How the hell you buy games from D2D Javo? i mean, you can download the game... but what if its need a serial? do they provide one? and what about MP game, will it work? lets say i want to Buy NWN2 from D2D, will i get a WORKING oficial Serial so i could play MP? if this D2D thing works good enough i just may my games from there Officially from now on.

Other thing, what kind of Credit card has to be?? will it accept anykind?
Title: Re: What games ya playin'?
Post by: Javokis on 2008-01-22, 00:16:51
D2D accepts Visa, Master, and American Express from the top of my head. Multiplayer works just fine and yes, they give you a legit serial number + their own special activation number and unlimited downloads so you never have to worry about making a download mistake. Unlike Steam, you receive a legit (original) install program containing the whole game of which you can burn on any dvd large enough to hold it. All purchased games are stored on your account permanently so make sure your account has a hard to guess password.

That's pretty much it though some games are only accessable in America so be sure to read the full discription of the game you are about to purchase or you'll probably get an access denied.

Been awhile since I seen a post here. I guess I'll bump it to.

Was playing Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. Been playing l4d 2 with Signo on occasion. Also got Jericho. Some thoughts on Jericho:

Pros
-I like the abilities of the team and how you need to switch between them to bypass obstacles.
-Some pretty crazy enemies and well done boss fights.
-Despite being able to control 6 teammates, I didn't feel like I had to micromanage.

Cons
-The "travel through time" concept didn't seem to be very obvious to me. Not till I got out of the so called World War 2 era. I didn't even notice we traveled through time till I came across a castle and a crusader in the dark age theme. Even then, things were so doomishly twisted that I felt more like I was in an alternate reality rather than a different time.
-The Jericho "team" seems to have some confusing facepalm issues. Either Clive Barker has a bad case of ADD or the team has a bad case of bipolar disorder (maybe both). Having them pull guns on each other every time they have an argument during a cutscene seems to distract from the plot rather than keep me focused.
-The developers really missed an epic opportunity by not including multiplayer coop with this game.
-Not enough enemies. Wish there was more enemies and more variety. But quality over quantity doesn't hurt.
-Jericho team AI is a bit passive.

Despite its flaws, Jericho is not a bad game.

Yeah... it has replay value for me.

Now trying to master The Witcher. Looking forward to Witcher 2.

I'm back on vista since windows 7 kept crashing on me. Tired of the bsod (blue screen of death). With that, I'm now able to play Thief Deadly Shadows since I was never able to get it to work on windows 7 64bit. Works great on Vista 32bit.

Anyone watch GopherVids on YT?

I did when I was playing Skyrim. He also makes some good tutorials for installing mods. Last time I played TESV, I had around 30 mods installed. Stuff like Immersive Armours/Weapons since vanilla game has a low variety of those, even with all the DLCs, and others that improve immersion and gameplay like Skyrim Redone, Climates of Tamriel, Better Vamps, 3D NPCs, Moonlight Tales and so on.
