Question about Final Death
« on: 2010-07-31, 23:57:48 »
Hello there all! Just a quick question. I posted it here, wasn't sure where else to, but anyways. The last few nights a couple of friends and I have an on going PnP chronicle, and my question is about final death. More specifically about gun shots to the head to Kindred. We understand the rules with dice pools and applying damage with firearms. But can a vampire meet final death with successful gun shots to the head? The Core Rule book explains it as, decapitation, trapped under a 10 ton rock, and so on. Usually when it happens the player/NPC just goes into torpor and then gets finished off from there. But wouldn't the vampire meet final death from this method? Hence the brain being destroyed? Usually it's just NPC's that it happens to so, its no big deal, but I was just curious. Thanks in advance!

I recall it referring only to when blasted by a shotgun at point blank range with so much force that the head explodes. Otherwise, guns are mostly a nuisance rather than a real thread.

Oh and it's not really the brain that animates the vampire, it's the blood. The brain can be heavily damaged, but the blood can repair even the most severe wounds... with the exception of loosing one's head, but even in that case some Tremere powers have allowed a vampire to avoid Final Death from that as well.

Vampires in the WoD are enormously resilient.

Thanks! So Pistols/Revolvers are almost rendered ineffective towards vampires, unless it's headshots, then its considered lethal damage. But vampires can also get hurt from massive amounts of bashing. As for enchanted items, maybe modified ammo? hence the DragonBreath Pistol from Redemption

A simple gunshot wont, exploding the head with say... a shotgun it will bring final death.

Well its not like uneffective, they do get hurt with massive damage... they just wont probably die, if you use dragonbreath shot to the head will most probably set the head on fire... oh boy that?s trouble.
