Under Construction
« on: 2010-03-18, 17:06:02 »
Hi all,
after a long time, I decided to continue my old City Project. In this thread I´d like to show you, what´s going on on my "Construction Yard".... Hope you´ll like it.

My latest Building for the city.....

Btw: I still need a good name for the city - every suggestion is welcome ;)

Looks promising. I would increase some of the light distances using falloff values (like .3 or .2 falloff) so that the city doesn't look too dark or "light blob'ish". You can play with "low lights" as I call them so you can balance out the right kind of darkness while trying to remove the light blobbing effect. A low light is a light with low falloff and intensity value. Like 150 intensity with a .2 falloff - might be good for some street lights.

As a world of darkness map, I know you want plenty of dark corners to hide in. But it's always good design to make sure people can see the graphics of the level design, while still creating strategic dark alleys and what not for those creepies that go bump in the night.

As for a name of the map. How bout:

Los Barnabas by Night

hehe.

And another building. Don´t wonder that the pics are a bit dark, but these are only pictures of my Construction map. When I finish a building, I copy the building into the mainmap. There I have other lights. The construction map is only for building and testing.

I like that though the lamps on the side wall could use a glow texture effect for their shades so to look like they are actually on.

I´d like that too, unfortunally I don´t know, how to change the texture into a glowing one. I mean how should I change only a part of the texture of the item into a glowing one.....

Is it a model? Did you use Milkshape to build the lamp? Or was it constructed with brushes?

If it's a model then separate the lamp shade group then assign a separate lamp shade material to it. I made a tutorial on how to create glowing texture effects stickied up in the 2d Art section so take a look.

If you want to get rid of the GUI, press f11. Just FYI. The second pic looks good, the first one could use a bit more lighting.
