WishDream Engine
« on: 2009-12-17, 00:32:03 »
Just a topic about what would i do if i had arround 1 million dollars... i would pretty much contract 6 people that has great amount of code programing, modelling and artistic abilities and build a whole new RPG Engine, here are some of the request about such engine.

Should look "good", at least something similar to Oblivion, dosent have to be ultra highly advanced GFX,

Should have a full char customization similar to Second Life or Oblivion.

Should have some form of Physics, not as advanced as Havok or PhysX.

Should come with a full SDK to easily create Maps, Models, Animations and modify the few aspects of the Engine.

Should be a stat based engine but also a hack n slash (tired of the damn games that do everything for you in a clic)

Should have LAN for up to 8 players for hosting or joining a game, honestly... you dont want more than 8 people in a game.

A minor SP story, which is based on either of my two books.

Should have a ST Mode.

Could either be based on Modern Age or Medieval Age.

That should cover the main part, but what i intend to do if i ever get such project is to just release and let the community mod the beast, modding community is what keeps a game alive... the more you give them the more they are willing to mod, which leads to a longer life and interest of the game, i hope that my two books will sell good, so i can start saving money for this project... if world dosent ends in 2012 haha.

But i may make the engine open source, or let the modders create their own stuff and sell it for half royalties hehe.

Going open source could be just before the engine stops being interesting, so that should boost some interest again.

I just need a damn million dollars... anyone? no? Damn...

There really isn't much of a way to do something like that with just 6 people. First off, they would need to be full time professionals willing to spend at least 40+ hours a week on a project like that and it'll still take at least 3-5 years (due to desire for multiplayer). Bethesda consisted of a team of at least 100 professionals (look at Oblivion credits), millions in budget, at least 3 years of development, and couldn't even be bothered to make the open world multiplayer. They still needed to make patches after launch.

Truth of the matter is, we would need to win the lotto to make this happen.

The only thing I'm hoping to see in CryEngine 3 is better AI support in multiplayer, streamlined sandbox features, better material editing system, and even larger map sizes. Other than that, I'll use CryEngine 2 once I learn everything I can about it. Besides, I'd probably have to buy a new computer when CryEngine 3 comes out.

How hard is it to make 3d models? is there any kind of animation tool too? if so, guess i can start converting gigapack into whatever crysis offers.

I'm still trying to figure out the rigging concept in XSI Mod Tool. Softimage does provide support for this in their community. So if you choose to make models for Crysis, you'll at least have developer support. I'm still looking into the specifics, but I at least got a non-rigged Bloodlines model into the game.

I need to figure out rigging. There's an additional step to get ragdoll working too. I'll need to figure both out.
