A re-model
« on: 2007-09-07, 23:12:25 »
Hey, just wanted to share a re-model I'm doing of Christof.  I originally wanted to help Xaltar on his Vampire Gaze mod, but I wasn't very skilled at the art of modeling, and my Serena model suffered from it.  I'm planning on re-doing a couple of characters.  Right now, I'm planning on re-doing Christof, Wilhelm and Serena, in Dark Ages and Modern models.

I put a side-by-side comparison of Xaltar's MD re-model and the DA original with mine so you can see at which level my modeling skill is and what to expect of the characters visually.  Unfortunately, since this is my first time actually doing something to mod Vampire (and I've honestly been "waiting" since the game's launch to try to do something), I have no idea what I should do to import the models in the game.  I know there's a tutorial on Spirit's Touch, but I'm not sure if it works the same way with new meshes.

Oh, and I gave him the ponytail, but if you prefer, I'll model his hair loose for the DA model.

I take it yours is the one in the center? I'm looking forward to seeing how you texture it...

Looking good, he seems a bit like he has been drinking a load of ales though ;)
In my opinion he'd look better with his original hair style not the pony.

IMO a new skin would be awesome just the same, The original Christoph model never looked bad to me. Nice modelling btw, what software are you using?.

True.  I'll get to it a.s.a.p.

I'm not saying he looked bad, but that he could always look better. ;)

Oh, and I'm using 3DS Max.  According to one of my teachers who's a liscenced Autodesk tutor, they don't care much as long as you're not planning on making a profit out of what you're doing with it.

I'd say, he gained a lil fat.

and about the "skirt" you gave him, old crusaders had them till around their knees at max, else i'd be in the way of the legs in the mid of a battle. and in a battle, nothing is a deadly as tripping over your clothes while fighting an eneamy soldier. unless you like to die.

The fat has since been trimmed, thank you very much.  :P

As for the..."skirt": The game's model had it below the knees too.  There's many images out there that support it.  Plus, it's a video game.  About vampires.  Who gain generations by spending experience points.

Just a quick heads up on the re-model progress.

I currently have the meshes for his basic DA outfit, his basic MD outfit as well as the trenchcoat.  I'll be modeling the DA armor as soon as I'm done with what I have.  Anything I should keep in mind if he is to be used in game?

Remember to make a head model for the 3d head in the GUI. Also remember claws (you can change the look of the claws if you'd like) as well as cutscene hands.

Since the head's already separated, I can use the same one for the GUI.  The character will already have five fingers, so I'm not sure if cutscene hands would be useful.  Though, I can't really say 'cause..well, it is my first time modding VtM.

It may not be recommended to give them all their fingures unless one hand (the right-hand) is cluched in a fist for holding weapons. Otherwise, pistols, swords, and other weapons wont grip right. That's why the developers made the models that way so they wouldn't have to animate the hands to grip weapons (saves time... and polies). The only time I think all their fingures should be shown is when a cutscene is in play. That's where the detailed hands should be made.

You make a valid point.  I'll do it tomorrow if I can.  Not that it's really hard to do.
