New PC, check it out

Ok, ill be getting today a Intel XEON Dual Procesor 3.06 Ghz HT, with 2GB DDR2, Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT 256 mb (Pci-E) hdd 80gb 7200 revs and  Lan, ill be keeping my actual audio, keyb and opt mouse... i manage to build this pc for 8,000 Pesos which is arround 700 USD, there is only one damn thing i dont like... which is the socket that is 604! WTH!? thats like 2 years old socket! well it seems Intel is releasing AGAIN these kind of Socket for the Xeon procesor, but with newer capabilities such as the Dual Core and much more FBS (1333 mhz bus max) well... i wont be able to upgrade to a newer procesor speed... BUT I WILL BE ABLE TO ADD ANOTHER PROCESOR OF THE SAME TYPE! if i add the same procesor in the future i will be using a pc with 4 microprocesors! at least thats what i understand of this whole damn Dual thingy, the dual procesor are 2 procesors working as one, so if you got a dual with 2.2 ghz you will be actually running a 4.4 ghz? im not really sure about this whole Dual thing... at least thats what i understand so far...  if im getting this wrong someone clarify it.. cause im sure you guys know more than i do for the moment... so, what you guys think about the specs and the price? if someone can reply soon enough to make me not to buy for X reason that would be cool.

There may be some hidden bad thing about the xeon that i am not aware of... so any help soon enough will be apreciated.

The dual core processors are best at multi-tasking. I know nothing more than that.

My GOD! this pc is a MONSTER! i can now run NWN2 at 60 fps in all graphics MAX! also FEAR runs about 50-60 fps! i also thought i was getting a 6800 GT, but i got a 7300 GT SLI capable by some weird brand called "ZOGIS", never heard of them before... but the card seems to be working pretty damn good.

Forgot to mention, there some weird issue going on with ANY Dual Procesors and XPSP2, it seems perfomance is being cut alot by YET ANOTHER XP BUG...

"Core 2" is the replacement for the Pentium.

DarkLobo, that is NOT a Windows XP bug. It's a problem with OEMs not configuring the operating system "correctly".

The only different thing about that pc and mines its that i got a Dual Core Xeon, everything is pretty much the same... this PC is Priced at £2318.22! (EUROS) HOLY CRAP!

I built this MOFO for arround 700USD! well the way my uncle explained why he build it soo cheap its that before the fiscal year companies get rid of many stuff that dont get through the quality control, like stratches, lost items and many other things, so that when the quality control checks it they took it as useless "PART", but theyre like 100% FUNCTIONAL pc parts, but are not in the shape to be sold any more... so companies like IBM sells this kind of parts to lesser countries like Mexico for pretty much few bucks... so my uncle is one of the people who gets all these kinds of PC parts for few bucks, so he built it for me for 700USD.

I just cant belive this damn pc is sooo damn expensive!

Nice one mate. I could do with a new graphics card and another gig of RAM but as i dont play games on my pc much anymore i dont see the point really. My pc can run NWN 2 at a steady 35-40fps anyway which is enough for RPGs.

Got a question bout my attachment piccies: Coz i have the processor displayed twice, does that mean i have a dual core p4??

The Xeon is a server processor, I don't think there is a replacement for the Celeron. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon

Ghettomurph you probably have HT in your processor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading

Yes, HT is also detected as Dual... but its not really Dual Core, its more like Emulated Dual Procesors.

Use this tool so you can see if you have Dual Core or just HT Enabled.

Cheers for that app mate. My cpu is just HT enabled.

Still, my system runs NWN2 smoothly and looking nice and i get around 45-50fps on FEAR at max settings on 1280 and 60fps+ at 1024 - i guess thats down to the graphics card, even though all i read about the x1300 is "it's crap", i think its a decent card considering i only paid £90 for it!

My processor doesn't have much to it actually. I don't have HT or any of that.

Must... ugh.... resist...... urge to.... uh... upgrade.
