[NEWS] Gears of War downloads
« on: 2007-01-08, 15:58:23 »
Microsoft today announced that new downloadable content is ready to go for Epic's monster Xbox 360 title Gears of War. From early Thursday gamers will have access to a new content pack on Xbox Live Marketplace. And yes, it's free. Huzzah!

What's in the pack? Two new maps for a start. The first, Raven Down, takes place on the bombed out city streets surrounding the crash site of a Raven Helicopter. With densely clustered car wrecks and detritus providing ample cover points, the map sees Delta make their way in from multiple access points to search for survivors. The second, Old Bones, looks to take on an almost survival horror tone, with a majestic old museum as the setting. The Locust Horde want to take it apart, further eradicating any record of humanity off the face of Sera, while Delta, naturally, will do anything to stop that happening. Also in the pack, an introductory video hosted by Epic's CliffyB.

The content pack is sponsored by the Discovery Channel, and along with the release they're giving away two million Microsoft points (in 400 point increments) for use on Xbox Live Marketplace. The promotion will take place through www.readyaimfire.com, on January 13th, 14th and 15th (U.S. dates). Suprisingly enough the site hasn't gone live yet, but bear with it, there'll be info there soon.

Here's a few shots from IGN of the two new maps:

The games are rather spendy from what I have seen of the 360s. I'll either need to look for used games or buy games very rarely.

I think they are pretty much what I expected, they are pretty much the same amount of any new game for the next gen, and PC

Well at least you can trade in 360 games into game stores, but you're stuck with pc games.

You guys cant trade in pc games at shops? Unlucky, us Brits can at a place called Gamestation. Im pretty sure ive seen preowned games in GAME as well.

As for the price of games, its pretty much what i expected really. The RRP of new 360 games is £49.99, but the only place that sells them at that price is GAME over here. Everywhere else sells them for, on average £39.99. Your best bet for cheap new games is probably eBay. I remember buying Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter not long after it came out for £35 including p&p. I sold Kameo and Project Gotham 3 for £18 & £15 on eBay a while ago. Bargains can be had from that place.

Come to think of it, why dont you sell your unwanted pc games on eBay? I set up an account on eBay.co.uk a couple of years ago and ive made a good few grand on that selling stuff i dont play anymore. I sold all my unwanted pc games, xbox1 games, gamecube games etc. All that happens is you get charged a little fee that comes out of your bank account at the end of the month. Plus, if you set up a paypal account they take a little percentage of what you earn. You still end up with around 95% of what you sold the item for.

Anyway, the GoW map pack is now available to download coz i dl'd it last night, there's also a free GoW dashboard theme to download now as well. There's a website that lets you preview dashboard themes before you buy them so you can at least tell what they look like! The new GoW theme is HERE. Just click on the tabs at the top of the picture to see the different blades.

Murph (p.s ive ditched my old namesake, time to move on methinks! Besides, Murphy is my surname and 'Murph' is my nickname!)
