[NEWS] Crackdown
« on: 2006-12-22, 05:29:56 »
To summarise, Crackdown is another Sandbox game. A game which takes Grand Theft Auto as it's main inspiration. Why should you care? Well maybe because it's being made by the man who invented Grand Theft Auto, David Jones (he also created Lemmings!).

Gamers play a superhuman character employed by the Agency in order to take back Pacific City from four corrupt corporations. Your character will level up throughout the game while arming themselves with high-tech weaponry, transformable vehicles and gravity-defying superskills. This is probably the worlds first true three dimensional world in this genre of game due to the fact that your character can scale buildings. Oh, you can also throw cars...

This game is another Xbox 360 exclusive (which means as its being made by a company owned by Microsoft, it'll probably come out on PC at some point in time). On January 18th 2007, a demo will be available to download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the official release date is February 20th 2007 (for Nth America anyway), Europe will probably get a release date of a few weeks afterwards if Gears of War's release is anything to go by.

Here's some screenshots of this brilliant-looking game:

Wow, I'm starting to think about not getting nintendo WII and geting an X360 with gears of wars and this one.

But aculy, you should look at Ubisofts Assasins creed, unless I'm mistaken you can scale go over every roof and such aswell, so you could assasinate your target in total freedome.

In the first screen, that car looks kind of weird tho.

Yeah, Assassins Creed looks really good too. There's so many decent games coming out/already aout on the 360 that i dont see the point of getting a PS3 when it doesnt offer anything new to the table. The missus wants to get a Wii though, buts thats aiming for a completely different demographic and will no doubt be flooded with cutesy games or games that can really take advantage of the motion sensing.

Gears of War is without doubt the best game ive ever played. My jaw literally hit the ground when i saw this running on my hdtv, the graphics are stunning and the game encounters absolutely no slowdown ever.

Id really recommend anyone getting a 360, its a really good machine.

As for the cars looking weird on that first screen shot, yeah they are but thats an early screen shot from quite a while ago. Im defo going to be getting this game.

Just found a really good video of the game being played in co-operative mode. This game looks like its going to be a really good laugh in co-op.

The video is quite a big download but if you've got a 1MB line or more it should only take around 20/30 mins to download.

The direct download link is HERE

Alternatively there is a streaming version HERE

The video is 132.75MB but its defo worth the watch, this game looks great!!

Yeah, even though all thats out there of Fable 2 is a pre-rendered movie. The first Fable was really good. Not too sure about the darkness though, not actually seen any footage of the game engine, just some pre-rendered stuff. The actual concept looks good. Its apparently based on a little-known comic franchise.

The thing thats really good about the 360 is the fact that all the online games have realtime voicechat enabled in them so you can chat as you play. Not sure if the PS3 or Wii have that ability do they? Thats one thing ive not seen on either of those two...headsets.

I seen the video but I read articles on it, and read the press confrences, one thing in fable 2, will be say for example, is the world progresses with you, like say you come across this village and you either can kill them all, or just leave them be. Say you come back in 10 years((game time)), if you killed them 10 years ago, then that village will be the same as you left it, with no one in it. If you let them be, then that village grew into a city. An other thing, is that you can now have kids, lol. Your kids will have the same traits as you, if your ugly, ur kids will be ugly lol. If your evil, and when you come home and see them ur kids will run up to you and tell you about all the mean things they did today, lol. They also decided to removed cutscenes from the game... The darkness looks pretty cool, I just seen some screenies and videos. I own a Wii and PS3((well the PS3 is my room mates))either of them I have seen don't have voicechat, and I dont think the Wii is online gaming..., it can connect to the net,but I think its just for to download the snes games and such

Re: [NEWS] Crackdown - Germany cracks down on Crackdown
« Reply #14 on: 2007-01-07, 11:18:37 »
German censors have targeted yet another Xbox 360 game as being unsuitable for young gamers. As it effectively "banned" Dead Rising and Gears of War, the German ratings board, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbskontrolle (USK), has refused classification on Microsoft's upcoming Crackdown.

By failing to receive a rating, Crackdown will have a handful of restrictions placed on its sales. As an unclassified game, Crackdown cannot be sold to minors, the transaction must take place in person, and the game can not be displayed or advertised in stores.

The decision to not rate the game is, like both Gears of War and Dead Rising, likely due to the game's violence. In Crackdown, players take on the role of a cop with superhuman powers who takes on gangs through brute force.

The USK's decision on Crackdown comes less than a month after proposed legislation in the country was drafted seeking jail time for gamers who performed "cruel violence on humans or human-looking characters."

In response to the USK's decision, Microsoft told GameSpot, "Microsoft respects the decision of the German ratings board--the USK--not to provide the title with a rating. While Microsoft will continue to follow its policy of not publishing unrated titles, we remain committed to delivering Crackdown and other top-quality entertainment experiences to age-appropriate audiences around the world."

Crackdown is rated M for Mature by the ESRB for "Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Use of Drugs" and will be released in North America on February 20. It currently has a TBC 18 rating for the UK.

This story really makes me laugh. Germany is a weird country. When i was based in Osnabruck last year you could routinely see porn DVDs sat right next to feature films at the local Media Markt. Add to that a giant porn shop sat right next door to McDonalds with mannequins in the windows wearing crotchless panties and peephole bras, strap ons and god knows what else!
