Neverwinter Nights 2
« on: 2006-12-14, 05:31:13 »
Just got hold of a copy of this that i 'found' on the internet *cough - torrent - cough*  ::)

Just installing it right now to see what all the fuss is about. I read the review in PC Gamer UK and they gave it 90%. Overall their reviews are pretty acurate so it should be good. Plus, there's the fact that the guy in charge of the game is the guy who was in charge of Planescape: Torment, Chris Avellone. Apparently, its not got quests of the "Fetch my magic amulet that i left on the bottom floor of that 19-level dungeon for, umm...no reason" type so its sounding good already. Emphasis is on story rather than hacking n' slashing this time around. Plus, its got the toolset with it like the first one did.

Looking forward to playing actually, i really liked the first one and the expansions. KotOR II was okay as well (NWN2 is made by Obsidian who made KotOR II)

Anyone else played this?

I didn't like the first one that much, I couldn't see why people liked it so much, although I will probably check out nwn2

Well, ive played it for a couple of days. Went out and bought it yesterday actually (primarily coz the hacked version took me 2 hours to get around the Securom protection and i later found out that all the bugs i was experiencing were because of the No DVD hack i was using!!).

First impressions? Very solid, good RPG. The emphasis is on story this time around rather than hacking and slashing (mind you, Hn'S is inevitable if your game heavily features melee weapons!) which is a good thing. Theyve obviously taken note of the success of the two Star Wars KotOR rpgs and have added back in all the banter between party members...some of which is quite amusing.

The mod scene is still getting to grips with the new toolset and revamped game engine but i doubt it will be long before some great mods come out for it like the previous one.

I recommend anyone who likes RPGs in general to get hold of it.

I recommend buying it rather than downloading it from torrents.

Reading on the nwn2 forums at bioware's website, the hacked version is really buggy. Apparently this is intentional when the no CD/DVD hack is used. Since im now using the official game its running perfectly. One example i can give of bugs in the hacked version is that none of the merchants work. You say "Show me your wares" and then the dialogue just ends, no shop screen comes up!

From what i can tell (i just started with a bog standard human) you can play as the normal races like humans, dwarves, elves etc. but they added in 8 new races:

Sun Elf
Wood Elf
Drow
Gold Dwarf
Duergar
Svirfneblin
Tiefling
Aasimar

You get to choose your alignment, what type of head you want on your character, hair colour, eyebrow colour, skin colour, hair accessory (if applicable) colour, facial hair & colour, what deity you worship, your class, prestige classes for later levelling up, there's a crafting system in the game for making your own kit including weapons, armour, amulets etc., potions, magic stuff, a four member party, a stronghold and much better dialogue and 'story' than before.

If youve played any Bioware RPG (apart from NWN1), especially Star Wars KotOR or Obsidians Star Wars KotOR II then you'll know what to expect. Lots of compaion bantering/arguing and companion quests. There's quite a bit of player-made mods, hak packs, textures etc. out already and seeing what was created with the previous game im in no doubt there will be tons of stuff out soon, including a couple of expansion packs.

All in all, its a very good game.

sweet, you can be a drow now, well  you could kinda in the other Forgotton realms, game, just make a elf and make his skin dark and white hair, but yeah lol. Do you know who is really cool?, Drizzt do'urden, that was random, but yeah. He seems like a nice guy, lol. He broke the mold of the stereotypical drow. I was in a book store, and I was looking at all the Forgotton Realm books, and Drizzt has been in like at least around 20 books lol, anyways....I just had to say that... :P
