Aye. The game is very intense. Some people have been greatly disturbed by it's level of atmosphere.

Comparable to Silent Hill in my oppinion. They truly turned the game into a Horror flick.

Hence why I am tempted to mod for it.

I've been looking at the two games for awhile and was wondering which one is overall a better game - atmosphere wise. Though I have only tried the demo of FEAR, I have also tried the demo of Doom 3 right before I decided to buy it. Personally I think Doom 3 has better artistry than FEAR. Though some areas seem repetitive, there are places that aren't.

One of the coolest effects I've seen in Doom 3 is when the walls and lights start changing.

:D

I'm thinking about modding again...

Unfair question rain, Doom³ and Fear scare you in a different way.

Doom using the grewsome images you see, the effects. Fear makes use of the fact that you know something is there... watching you... always.

You don't aculy get to fight that untill the very last.

For example, you just had the disturbtion of your suit hud, and you look around and suddenly right nexst to you on the other side of the window the girl is staring at you.

Both techiques work differently, I was less scared of Doom³ then fear. but both had its moments.

Didn't we already had a tropic like this?
William - Bloodywolf - Me
Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Envy, Pride and Lust.
Which one shalt thou pick today?

Doom 3 isnt scary. It just makes you jump coz things fly out of vents, round corners etc.

FEAR actually made me scared in places (with the lights off and sound turned up). When you get near to certain things, like Bloodywolf said, your HUD starts getting interference and you hear things. Personally the bit that scared the shit out of me the most was when you go to a ladder in a deserted part of the start of a level, you activate the ladder to climb down and as your character turns around the little girl is right behind you...that made me shout out loud!

In my opinion, FEAR has a scary atmosphere all the way through...that girl is everywhere. Doom just throws enemies at you all over the shop and the whole darkness thing just pisses me off coz you cant see fuck all!! That much time spent in complete darkness and your eyes would start to adjust, NOT IN DOOM!! The thing that makes FEAR better is the fact that its in a recognisable setting, not on Mars.

Plus, then youve got the brilliant slo-mo feature, melee attacks and absolutely fantastic enemy AI. The AI in FEAR is comparable to the AI in Halo 1&2 on Legendary difficulty...its like youre actually fighting against intelligent enemies, ones that work together, not ones that just stand there while their mate next to them gets his head blown off.

Where did I say that Doom 3 was more scary than FEAR? I said Doom 3 has better artistry and I still think so. The textures and design for Doom 3 is far more complex than FEAR. I was talking about environment more than element.

[edit]

As for the slow-down feature, Doom 3 has that too in its expansion.

I'm thinking about getting FEAR, but I need to drop res to 640 so I can get 60 frams per second. Doom 3, on the other hand, runs just fine at near max.

According to this topic, there a mod being worked on to change the single player experience into something more horrid - less hack & slash.

Bloody hell, thats impressive! Obviously still early in development, but shows what can be done with the D3/Q4 engine. I instantly thought it looked like a 3D version of Fallout, thats got to be their influence on this project.

Cant wait for Fallout 3 to come out, hope Bethesda dont cock it up!

http://www.martianbuddy.com/

[edit]

Actually that mod reminded me of X-COM UFO Defense sense in X-COM everything is destructable.
