Elder Ranking System
« on: 2006-12-06, 02:43:55 »
Personally, I like it. ;D It's like role-playing every time I come here. The more you post, the more you master the vitae (electricity) of your account and the greater amount of power (privileges) you wield. The ranks and the stars and the way they change depending on the number of posts is a nice touch. 8) Perhaps there is some room for improvement, but I like the current system.

I'll be using my old name as a beta account to make sure things are working relatively right. I'll also use this old account to participate in the rps going on below.

Yeah I also saw your other beta account too, lactose. :D Testing to make sure accounts with less than 5 posts cannot start new threads, right? Another reason I like this system: NO SPAM! ;D

n00bs cannot vote - that was to prevent abusive voting in general threads. I've seen other forums where new handles were being made just to make another vote in their favor. The only place any member can vote is the announcements thread and the Profiles and Bios thread. Otherwise, you'll need at least 10 posts to be able to start voting in polls.

I had to fix a permission that I seem to have missed. The ability to edit profile information. heh

Fixed now. Everyone should also be able to turn off announcements.

Ok.

Because of the new system I decided to take a chance and allow for immediate registration again. We'll see how much spam pops up now...

That is exactly what I thought. ;D I KNOW the email conformation thing was driving new potential members away. Now with the 5 post requirement before you can start a thread, people can register immediately while blocking spam. ;) Say, how did you come up with this system? Did you gather ideas from various people or did you create this entirely yourself?

PS: I love the absolute control over my Bio! ;D

I have decided to make the Role-Playing section into a general story thread with the same permissions and control as the profile and bios section.

I will make the dream journals section the same way. Now Newbies can at least post stories, dreams, and bios to rack up some points.

As for the idea behind this... well I just look at other forums and see the members complaining about things and I figured that why not try making a system that encourages participation while reducing irritation.

I had to fix the permissions some more. It appears that after adding the ability to see other member's profiles to the lokorum rank, I appearantly forgot to add it to all the other ranks above it. hehe.

I also forgot to add the ability to vote to the lokorum rank. I need to check to see if voting is active for all ranks above it.

Cool. That's coding though. There is bound to be bugs somewhere. I've crashed many games tweaking the code and many a web page went screwy on me. What about creating an account and "assigning" it a certain number of posts to test each tier?

Well I have this beta account here. I'll just need to post with it regularly.
