Thinking of a Name Change
« on: 2006-10-13, 02:33:04 »
Damn it people keep calling me "Scip" or "Scippy." >:( It's Scipoten. SY-poe-ten! The "c" is silent! In Latin, it means "knowledge and power!" Considering everyone across five different boards cannot get it right, I am thinking of changing my handle to one of two names. Either:

Sci

>or

Psypoten

"Psypoten" means "mental strength" or "power of the mind" whereas "Sci" simply means "knowledge," but "Sci" is just a shortening of my current name. If I shorten my name to "Sci" (pronounced "SY" or "sigh") I wonder if people will think it is "ski," like snow skis, or if I change my name to "Psypoten" (still pronounced "SY-poe-ten"), if people will start calling me "Spy" or "Spy man." What do you guys think?

It's hard trying to change a handle after using one for so long.

Yes. And I am reluctant to change it, but what if everyone kept calling you "Rail Moo"?

Besides, Lancea changed his name to "La" long after he hit 1,000 posts and everyone still knows who he is.

That's the problem. People will still call you scippy.

How true, I don't like my name but I'm stuck with it. I changed it to Damien Cain for a short time but it didn't stick. I had also been using that name as an alt account on another forum and had a few enemies there so had to change it back.

How about "Truman Scipote"? Okay, I'll shut up.

How can my name be confused with Rail moo? It's not like I'm using some foreign naming convention like you are scippy. Unless there is a language where rain is called rail and moon is called moo, I don't see the logic.  ::)

People have called my Rainy and even mr moony, but nothing that confused some obscure Latin pronunciation.

It is not obscure. "Sci-" is used as in "science" and "poten" is used as in "potent." The English language is is based on Latin. All you have to do is stop and think about it for a few moments and you can figure out the meaning.

In case you didn't notice, I butchered your names on purpose.

A whiff is the act of inhailing or smelling. It is usually used when smelling something bad. In other words, you stink. :P
